The Everyday Carry Bag I Swear By

An everyday carry is all the items you carry on a daily basis. Depending on your occupation or hobbies, your tools and essentials can vary. As an artist and photographer, I’ve been looking for the perfect travel bag to level up my productivity on the go. In this post, I’m detailing the how I’m using a Proenza Schouler PS1 as my everyday carry bag.

How to select the perfect everyday carry bag?

1. Make a list of all your gear, and essentials you use regularly

The best way to do this is to lay all of your items in front of you. Be sure to take note of the shapes, sizes, or if any item requires extra protection.

2. Pick the type of bag that suits your needs

There are so many different types of bags like totes, messenger bags, slings, and backpacks. Really think about your workflow and pick the best that serves your process. Be sure to consider, color as well. If you’re going to be wearing this bag everyday, make sure it coordinates with your wardrobe.

3. As your process evolves, so will your kit.

Your everyday carry can change as you develop your workflow. The best thing you can do is find one that’s durable, secure, and multifunctional.

Questions to consider

Is the material durable for all weather conditions?

Can it fit all my essentials?

Is it comfortable?

Price point

What style or color are you looking for?

How I found my everyday carry

I’ve found the perfect everyday carry through trial and error. I’ve learned that when you build your arsenal of tools and work on the go daily, you quickly learn what’s important, what you use frequently, and what you may need quick access to.

When I first started looking for the perfect setup, I started browsing the web and watching youtube videos. I ended up purchasing a Wandrd Prvke backpack. The bag is waterproof, has easy access to get my camera, and many other features that help me thrive on the go. However, I tend to only use this bag when I’m hiking or traveling out of state because of its size. Personally, its too big for an everyday commute. I will probably be investing in their lite version at a later date.

Shortly after realizing this, I bought a smaller backpack from Topo designs. The Rover mini is perfect on my frame, has side pockets for a tripod, and fits my tablet/laptop. However, when I was sketching on location or needed to change batteries, I didn’t like having to completely stop and search through my backpack. That process would hinder my flow.

I tend to switch between the backpacks above use for electronic accessories, laptop, snacks and water. However, when ever I’m traveling I love having a crossbody bag for the items I use the most for easy access.

I ended up getting a crossbody bag from unsettle co. to house my wallet, phone, batteries, audio equipment, and drawing tools for easy access. I wore this bag everyday. But, I shoot mostly on prime lenses, and would wish I could fit a lens or two in my crossbody bag.

That led me down another internet search. I came across peak design, wandrd, and several other photography messenger or sling bags, but none of them felt like me. I needed something with form, function, and didn’t look like a camera bag. I almost pulled the trigger on the Wandrd 6L sling, but its sold out…AGAIN.

You know when you tell yourself if you just get this one thing, all your problems will be solved. Whelp, for me, it happened to be a Proenza Schouler PS1 bag. Not just any PS1 bag, but a special collaboration with Harmony Korine. I came across it on 1st dibs. Weeks prior, I actually had my eyes on a cobalt blue PS1 on Poshmark, but for some reason I could’nt get the other one out of my head. Obsessively, I started doing all this research on Harmony Korine and found all these things I liked about him and his work. The fact that he was a multidisciplinary artist and wasn’t on social media was kind of the deal breaker for me (Ahhhh the similarities, just give me all the reasons to splurge….the things I tell myself)

This bag is providing organization, style, and function and it makes me feel damn good!

To make things even easier, I added a felt fabric organizer from Amazon to the interior so each item has its place and most importantly, I can easily change lens on the go without fumbling through a cluttered purse.

What’s in my everyday carry?

My camera with a 35mm lens (which I usually wear with a peak design strap), Insta360 x3 with selfie stick, DJI OM 5, Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Stylus, tablet hand grip, extra batteries, 14mm lens, 70-300mm Lens, wallet and felt fabric organizer
