More Color, More Everything
Colors define, differentiate, and radiate energy I cannot express with words. A good balance of contrast and tone has always ignited my inner Bob Ross spirit.
I’ve been attracted to color all my life. My mother had thyroid issues when I was younger. We were constantly going in and out of bland hospitals and beige doctor’s offices. The dull interiors and muted tones drove me nuts! I couldn’t help but yearn for a mix of Kelly Wearstler and Frida Kahlo to suffice. So I drew, painted, and wore every single color you could possibly think of. My style was all over the place, but those were my bright beginnings.
I didn’t realize the power of color until I began paying attention to Tim Burton’s films.
His use of color was like music for my eyes. I became completely obsessed when I realized his use of tone and contrast to differentiate between worlds. In his gothic scenes, the deep muted tones add emotional depth while his pastel fantasies (almost always with a touch of stripes) illuminate our imaginations. Among other things, his consistency with sky blue practically gives me orgasms because it’s in almost every single fucking frame. It’s safe to say his aesthetic drives me wild. Jokes aside, Tim is a Prismatic Master!
While my colors began as a mean of expression, it has evolved as a way of life. I incorporate color into my art and wardrobe every day. At this point in my life, I finally feel like I developed a very distinct personal style. I remember experimenting with so many looks growing up. It felt like I was wearing a costume! Nowadays it’s like playing a game of tones. I love mixing similar hues and adding a bright pop to catch your eye.
