Slightly Adventurous
I’m not your average outdoorsy type.
I don’t wear Patagonia and the North Face religiously.
I don’t live in Birkenstocks and socks;
Nor do I camp in unbearing conditions just for the hell of it.
I roam gardens, explore museums, and dabble in adventure occasionally.
Does that make me a
fraud?
whimp?
newbie?
I would say ‘nay’ to all of the above. I characterize my outdoor endeavors as slightly adventurous. I have no plans to hike Mount Everest, but I would go to base camp, wish all the truly wild folk good luck, and happily explore everything below.
Hiking is not a race or a fitness activity to me.
I take my time.
I take in all the sights and sounds.
I meander around with a camera with the hopes to capture a moment.
Don’t get me wrong, I do go outside my comfort zone from time to time to try new things and reach new heights.
I believe the media plays one narrative. The one where outdoor recreation is extreme and heroically wild. Those stories and ads are inspiring, but it’s a bit much for me.
To be slightly adventurous
means you aim to live with curiosity; to seek fair to middling wonder rather than comfort, to make time for sunshine, to find a place you love, and share it with someone else.
I feel like I just started a new club. Are you going to explore with me?
